About Synchronized Skating

Synchronized skating is an exciting and highly technical form of figure skating characterized by speed, accuracy, unison, intricate formations and breathtaking transitions.  Synchronized skating is performed by teams of 8-20 athletes and incorporates aspects of singles, pairs and ice dancing into a team sport.  Programs are judged for technical difficulty and presentation (artistic impression).

“Synchro” has become one of the fastest growing disciplines in the sport of figure skating with more than 500 teams and 8,000 skaters competing across the U.S20 countries compete on the international level.  It is sanctioned by the U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) and the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing bodies for all skating events in the U.S. and internationally.  It will likely be added to the Winter Olympic Games and will become the first discipline in figure skating to be recognized as an NCAA sport.
